Gases:

  • Are substances that exist in a gaseous state at “normal” pressure and temperature (i.e., approximately 4.7 psia and 70 F)
  • Can be flammable, corrosive, toxic, reactive, or various combinations of these
  • Are commonly encountered as compressed gases, for which pressures may range up to 10,000 psi.

Unplanned releases of compressed gases can be violent and difficult to control due to pressure.
